About Dr Kanury Venkata Subba Rao

Kanury Venkata Subba Rao is an Indian Biologist and is currently Director and Chief Technical Officer of PredOmix, a startup company that he co-founded. He is well known for his studies in the fields of peptide synthesis, infectious disease biology, cell signaling, and systems biology.

Kanury Venkata Subba Rao obtained his Masters degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pune 1979. Hethen joined the Malti-Chem Research Centre in Baroda for his PhD work under Prof. Sukh Dev. He obtained his PhD degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Barodain 1983. Subsequently, he moved to Johns Hopkins University in 1983 for his post-doctoral research at their Division of Environmental Chemistry where he worked with Prof. Miles R. Chedekel. After labouring for a long time there, he moved to join the research laboratory of Prof.Fred C. Fox in the Molecular Biology Institute of the University of California at Los Angeles. He worked there for four additional years. Coming back to India in 1988, he joined the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology where he held diverse positions as that of Research Scientist(1988– 1991), Assistant Scientist (1991– 1998), in addition to becoming Group Leader of the Immunology Group (1994-2015), and Senior Scientist (2004-2015).

Kanury Venkata Subba Rao was elected by the Indian Academy of Sciences as their fellow in 1993 and the next year, he became a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India. In 1997. He was awarded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research with one of the highest Indian science awards "Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize" and also received the National Bioscience Award for Career Development in 1999. The Indian National Science Academy elected Rao as their fellow in 2000, In the same year he also received the Millennium Plaque of Honour from the Indian Science Congress. Finally, he also served two consecutive terms as President of the Indian Immunology Society (2004 – 2008).
